TekNap
Here is some advice about TekNap.
When you download the teknap.zip file you must unzip that to the c:\TekNap directory. When you do that you must go to the directory and open it. There you will see a help.zip file, unzip that to c:\TekNap\help When you do this open the help folder. Inside this folder you will find another help folder. Cut this folder and paste it in c:\TekNap You will get something along the lines of, do you want to replace the existing help, just click yes. That is the start done and now i will show you how to connect to a server.
The easiest way to connect to a server is by inserting the server, port, usrname and pass each time you want to connect. There is another way which i will show you later. Double click on RunTek and insert the following into it. Where you see [enter] just press the enter key
/server 0rion.scieron.com:8888:username:pass [enter]
If you entered this correctly you should now connect to 0rions server. You can do this to connect to any server. The username is the username whcich you want to use and the pass is the password you wish to use.
The second way to connect to a server is to set defaults within TekNap. For this i am going to presume you have a 56k modem. Again double click on RunTek and when it opens insert the followng.
/set default_nick mynick [enter]
/set default_pass mypass [enter]
/set default_speed 5 [enter]
/save [enter]
If this was entered correctly, your username should appear in the blue line. Now if you want to connect to a server all you have to do is enter the following
/server 0rion.scieron.com:8888 [enter]
Default TekNap Settings
Here are some default settings that i would reccomend you use, to make life using TekNap much easier.
| /SET ALLOW_DCC OFF |
You should always have TekNap set to this, as it will make TekNap an easier programme to use. This means that when somebody sends you a file you have to type /DCCGET and you can control what files you want to accept. No matter how much someone tells you to SET ALLOW_DCC ON NEVER do this as they this means people can send you files such as viruses and anything else they with and TekNap automaticaly accepts the files with you knowing it. |
| /SET HELP_PATH //c/TekNap/help |
When you get into trouble and need to know how to use certain commands, type /help and if you have your Help Path set right (and of course the help folder in the right place) the TekNap help commands will come up. |
| /SET LOAD_PATH //c/teknap/script |
Make sure that this is set as the path to load scripts, this avoids have long directories to load files for TekNap (ie /load c:\teknap\script\colors.rc) and you can just type /load colors.rc Make sure that all the files you with to load are in the c:\teknap\script\ folder. |
| /SET URL_GRAB ON |
When this set on URL's that are said in the chatrooms are logged by TekNap, so there is no need for a pen and paper as TekNap has them stored. To view the URL saved list type /URL LIST and a list of all saved URL's will appear. URL's will be lost everytime that you close the TekNap client, so save any important URL's. |
| /SAVE |
When you set things in TekNap you Must save them otherwise all the settings you wish to use will be lost and you will have to reset them the next time you open TekNap. |
Now i am going to show you some of the basic TekNap commands such as loading .rc files ect. After you load a .rc file instructions will then come up on how to use it. Remember that all .rc files must be kept in the scripts folder for them to be loaded properly. Remember to press enter at the end of after typing in the command.

Other TekNap Tips
To make you sentence bold just type Ctrl+b This will make the stuff you type after it bold.
TekNap autocompletes, so if you want to message me for example instead of typing /msg originalhandy you can type /msg orig[press tab] and it completes my username
If someone sends you a msg instead of replying by typing /msg originalhandy just press tab and autocomplete will work. To clear the screen of all text just type /clear.
Also remember that the best way to learn about TekNap is to try new stuff all the time, and if it dosent work try again. If that fails you can ask me for advice, and most people on MasterNap will be willing to help you.
Copying and pasting from win98 to tek and back
To copy text from windows into tek select the text you want and press Ctrl+C and then go into teknap and press the paste button, wait a few seconds, and press esc, then hit paste again. The text will now appear teknap. To copy from teknap into windows simply press the copy button in tek, select the text you want and then press the copy tab again. Then go into windows where you want to paste it to and press Ctrl+V.
TekNap Screenshots
 |
This is what my TekNap looks like when i first run the programme. The first line of text i put in my teknap.rc file just to show me that it loaded properly. The second line that you see is the file colors.rc loaded. I put a command within my teknap.rc file to tell it to automatically load colors.rc. The list of websites are just my own sites, i was just messing with the teknap.rc file to see what i could do. In my teknap.rc file i have a list of servers with my username and password in it so instead of typing /server yas.opennap.cc:7777:originalhandy:mypass i just type /server 4 This connects me to the fourth server in my list. I will soon have a teknap.rc file ready for download with all appropriate files. |
| TekNap Files |
| teknap.rc |
This is my teknap.rc file, is small and basic but it works. I recommend that you use DJ's color.rc script and an away.rc. |
| away.rc |
When you are leaving run this script and it tells the room you are leaving. |
| Colors.rc |
Colors V1.8, written by DJHyperbyte. This makes TekNap visually better by adding colours to it. |
| fade.rc |
Talks in different colours. |
| fuck.rc |
This script bans and kills people in one /fuck. Usage is /fuck user reason (reason being optional). Written by originalhandy. |
| fuck2.rc |
This script bans a username, the users IP and kills people in one /fuck. Usage is /fuck user reason (reason being optional). Written by originalhandy. |
| leet.rc |
Talk in leet. |
| msgall.rc |
This lets you send and Instant Message to every user on a network, Mod+.Written By TuTone, Edited by originalhandy (menu). |
| rules.rc |
Send a person the rules. |
| windows.rc |
This splits the TekNap screen into 3 windows, this is handy for Mod+ so that the screen dosent become blocked up with server messages. Type /win1 /win2 /win3 ect to swithch between windows. |
| winamp.rc |
If you are playing WinAmp it tells the room what song you are listening to, can be a bit annoying at times. |
| x-files.rc |
TuToneBK's x-files ascii script, pretty cool. |
